Lessons in classical piano from the age of six.
Jazz piano beginning at the age of thirteen; self-taught.
1980-1985 – fine arts education at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin; private jazz piano lessons with Prof. Walter Norris, among others.
1985 – MFA in painting. Began working exclusively as a professional jazz musician.
1992 – increasing involvement with composition.
1995 – New York grant from the Berlin Council on Cultural Affairs; private lessons with Kenny Werner.
The Christian von der Goltz Trio has toured numerous countries through the Goethe Institute, including Turkey (Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara); Israel (Tel Aviv and Jerusalem); St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finnland; Tallinn, Estonia; Toronto, Canada (Toronto Jazz Festival); Nancy, France (Nancy Pulsations Festival).
Bandleader, composer, and arranger for numerous singers and instrumentalists (Dotschy Reinhardt, Miriam Netti, David Rose, Iris Romen). Since 1995 – teacher in jazz piano and co-repetition at the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB).
2011–2018 – teacher for jazz piano at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” in Weimar.
